Scholarship Bulletin Department Files Contacts Department Announcements Course Selection for 2012-2013 School YearThe Course Selection process for the 2012-2013 school year has begun! This past Friday, January 6th, all students attended presentations by the counselors during their Health, PE, Driver Ed or JROTC classes. They were given a packet of information including the course selection worksheets that need to be completed with teacher recommendations as well as students' elective choices. Students were also instructed on how to use the Course Planner in Career Cruising. This allows students to enter their preferred electives electronically into Career Cruising. Students have until Monday, January 16th to enter their courses in. After that, only the counselors will be able to make revisions for next year's choices. Students may continue to work on their electives for the years after that. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with teachers on Teacher Advisement days when teachers will initial their recommendations for next year's courses. Once the worksheets are completed, students must turn them in by Thursday, January 12th. Starting Wednesday, January 18th, counselors will begin to meet one-on-one with students during their English classes in order to finalize their course selections. Counselors asked students to do their research to make sure they make good decisions about their elective choices. That research includes talking to parents, teachers and counselors, using Career Cruising to learn which courses can help them prepare for their future career goals and reading the District 218 Course Selection Guide for course descriptions and prerequisites. Making informed choices is very important because after May 24th, requests for course changes will not be allowed. Click on the Course Selection link above to see the PowerPoint and documents given to students to assist them in this very important task. Students also can view the Course Selection video put together on iHigh. Click on one of the videos at the bottom of the Shepard webpage. Then click on Counseling Center on the left. The video is on the bottom right hand side titled Astro Brief.
